Every family begins at their own unique place - with different needs, expectations, backgrounds, and budget. Each counseling session is tailored to educate the family about the important components of a great “college admissions campaign” by walking through the below steps in an orderly manner.
As we work the process together, we’ll refine your choices down to a handful of colleges where you will thrive before ultimately selecting just the right college for you. As a former student and athlete at Stanford and Oxford Universities, Kathy works with families to walk through a logical and ordered sequence of steps to ultimately bring a sense of clarity, order and calm to the application process as well as maximize the student’s opportunity to be accepted at their school(s) of choice.
Here are the services I offer as we make this journey together:
—
Help in understanding how college admissions will view each student and how best to prepare so the student is presented in the best possible light.
—
Review of the student's courses and grades so the Transcript reads properly for the kinds of colleges the student is interested in attending.
—
Determine which test to take, when and how many times to take it, where to do effective test prep. Monitor the scores to understand admission chances at schools of choice.
—
Understand possible financial aid to determine which colleges are likely to be in the “affordability” range and which types of aid the family will qualify for: need based, merit, athletic.
—
Build and refine a college list as preferences emerge and visits are made.
—
Advice on what to do, and what to look for, when visiting colleges.
—
Direction in communicating with coaches and navigating the athletic recruitment process.
—
Help in filling out college applications, including the Common Application, the Coalition Application, the UC Application, and any individual school applications.
—
Oversee the college application process by attending my Application Boot Camp.
—
Direction with obtaining teacher letters of recommendations. Help with interview preparation.
—
Editing help with the important essay-writing portion of the applications.
—
Unlimited office visits, phone, and Skype calls.
